Israel should be made accountable for its war crimes: FO

Pakistan continues to support a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue, says spokesman.

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office on Thursday  welcomed the ceasefire in the Israeli war on Gaza after over 15 months of devastation and massacre.

The Foreign Office however demanded that Israel should not be allowed to go unpunished for its atrocities and massacre of innocent people of Palestine and should be made accountability for its war crimes.

Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan told a weekly media briefing that Pakistan welcomes the ceasefire in Gaza since January 19. He said that Pakistan continues to support a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue.

The spokesman added that Pakistan demands accountability for Israeli crimes and wants to make Gaza livable again.

About the deportation of Afghan nationals, the spokesman said Pakistan is following the policy of sending some of the Afghans to a third country, including the United States, but so far we have not been given any information from the United States.

In reply to a question about the Indus Water Treaty, Mr Khan said: “The Treaty between Pakistan and India is the basic agreement on water. The recent decision of the International Court of Justice supported Pakistan’s position on the Kishanganga Dam. Pakistan is fully committed to this agreement and hopes India also ensures the implementation of this agreement.”

About the deaths of 44 Pakistanis in a boat accident near Morocco, he In response to a question, the Foreign Office said 25 Pakistanis survived the accident, adding the incident is being investigated.
