Israel approved a major fighter jet deal with the United States to expand its air power. The plan includes new F-35 fighter jet and F-15 fighter jet squadrons.

The defence ministry confirmed the agreement on Sunday. It described the purchase as critical for future military readiness.

The deal marks an early step in a broader 350 billion shekel ($119 billion) military expansion plan. Officials aim to prepare for rising regional threats.

Strategic Push for Air Superiority

Israel’s Ministerial Committee on Procurement approved the plan. Leaders said the investment will secure long-term air superiority.

Officials stressed the importance of advanced air power in modern warfare. They said new aircraft will anchor future force development.

Defence Ministry Director General Amir Baram said Israel must act early. He emphasized maintaining a military edge over the next decade.

He linked the decision to lessons from recent regional conflicts. He highlighted the value of strong US-Israel defense ties.

Details of the Aircraft Deal

Israel will acquire a fourth squadron of F-35 jets from Lockheed Martin. It will also purchase a second squadron of F-15IA jets from Boeing.

In December, Boeing secured an $8.6 billion contract. The deal includes 25 F-15IA jets, with an option for 25 more.

Officials said the next step involves finalizing agreements with US government counterparts. Timelines remain under discussion.

War Lessons Shape Military Strategy

Recent conflict with Iran influenced the decision. Israeli leaders said the war underscored the importance of air dominance.

A ceasefire has remained in place since April 8. However, tensions across the region continue.

Defence Minister Israel Katz said the air force proved decisive. He stressed the need to strengthen capabilities for future conflicts.

Expanding Capabilities Beyond Air Power

Katz said the new jets will bring advanced technologies. These include autonomous systems and next-generation defense integration.

He added that Israel aims to expand capabilities into space-based operations. The move reflects a broader shift in military strategy.

Israeli forces have also conducted operations against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. These campaigns followed the October 2023 attacks.

Katz said Israel will continue investing in military strength. He stressed readiness to operate across multiple fronts at any time.
