Karachi Athletes Dominate Lahore Marathon and Cycling Races

LAHORE: Pakistan’s largest-ever national marathon and cycling event was held in Lahore on Sunday, attracting thousands of athletes, including children, adults and persons with disabilities from across the country.

The event featured multiple categories, including a 21-kilometre marathon and cycling races for men, a 5-kilometre race for women, a family fun run, and a dedicated wheelchair race for differently-abled participants.

The event was inaugurated early in the morning at Liberty Chowk with a cycling race, which was formally launched by Punjab Sports Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar.

According to organizers, more than 11,000 participants from across Pakistan took part in the competitions. Strict security arrangements were put in place, while traffic management plans were implemented to ensure smooth flow in the city.

In the men’s 21-kilometre cycling race, Ali Ilyas from Karachi secured first position, followed by Lahore’s Aqib Shah in second place and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Sanaullah in third.

In the women’s 5-kilometre cycling category, athletes from Karachi dominated the podium, with Zainab taking first place, Anisa second, and Rabi third.

Officials described the event as a major success, highlighting strong participation and competitive performances from athletes nationwide.
