KARACHI: The teachers’ association of the University of Karachi has agreed to end its month-long boycott of examinations, paving the way for the resumption of academic activities at one of the country’s largest public universities.

According to official sources, the decision came after assurances were given regarding the resolution of financial and administrative issues faced by the university’s faculty and staff.

Following negotiations involving representatives of the Sindh Higher Education Commission (SHEC), the Universities and Boards Department, and university employee associations, an agreement was reached to form a high-powered committee to address the grievances of teaching and non-teaching staff.

The committee, headed by the Chairman of the Sindh Higher Education Commission, includes senior officials from relevant departments as well as representatives from the Karachi University Teachers Society, Employees Welfare Association, and Officers Welfare Association. It has been tasked with reviewing financial, policy, and administrative matters and submitting recommendations within 40 days.

Officials confirmed that the protesting bodies have agreed to immediately end the boycott of ongoing examinations. The university administration will now reschedule the affected exams and issue a revised timetable shortly.
