KP decides to suspend protesting teachers
District education officers told to file reports to elementary education department forthwith.
PESHAWAR: The education department of Khyber Pakthunkhwa has decided to suspend all teachers who have been protesting for the last many weeks.
The district education officers across the province have been told by the elementary and secondary education directorate to file reports to the department forthwith.
In a statement, the department said that some teachers under the garb of their demands had given the call for protest disrupting education activities in primary schools.
It said that there were also reports that some anti-social elements were trying to lock schools. This would be considered not only an illegal activity but would force the government to take strict action. Such an illegal activity does not suit the dignity of teachers, it added.
It may be mentioned here that for over six months, over 5,000 teachers in the schools under the Elementary and Secondary Education Foundation have not been paid their salaries.
These teachers have given the call for protest after their demand for the release of the salaries fell on deaf ears.
