Long wait is over! Champions Trophy kicks off in Pakistan today

Traffic plan, security in place for first match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi.

KARACHI: The long wait is over and all is set for the beginning of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan after 29 years with the first match to be played in Karachi between host Pakistan and New Zealand today. 

According to the ICC,  Champions Trophy 2025 marks the tournament’s return after an eight-year hiatus and is starting on February 19th in Pakistan. As the host nation and defending champions, Pakistan will compete against seven of the world’s best teams to retain their title.

The eight teams are divided into two groups for the tournament’s opening stage. Each team will play three group-stage matches, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals.

Group A features Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and New Zealand, while Group B includes Afghanistan, England, Australia, and South Africa. The tournament opener will see the home team, Pakistan, face New Zealand on February 19th in Karachi.

Meanwhile, a traffic plan has been released for the Champions Trophy matches to be played today, and March 1 at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.

During the matches, Sir Shah Suleman Road will be open to traffic, fans coming to the stadium will park at the National Coaching Center and China Ground.

Those coming from the carmaker will reach the coaching centre and China ground from under the flyover. Heavy traffic will go from Sohrab Goth to NIPA, Liaquatabad No. 10 to Hassan Square. While heavy traffic coming from People’s Chowrangi will go to University Road.
