Nawaz Calls Meeting on Gilgit-Baltistan Election Tickets

ISLAMABAD: The process of awarding party tickets for the 2026 elections in Gilgit-Baltistan has accelerated within Pakistan Muslim League (N), as party leader Nawaz Sharif has summoned a meeting of the parliamentary board.

According to sources, the meeting will be held on April 20 in Murree, where candidates for all 24 constituencies are expected to be finalized.

Nearly 150 aspirants have applied for party tickets, and the board will conduct a detailed review of all applications. Consultations on potential political alliances and new party entrants are also likely to take place.

The 23-member parliamentary board has full authority to approve candidates. It includes senior leaders such as Shehbaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Asif, Maryam Nawaz, Hamza Shehbaz, Khawaja Saad Rafique and Rana Sanaullah among others.

Sources said all board members have been formally informed, and the meeting will begin at 11am under the chairmanship of Nawaz Sharif.

The party is also considering holding a similar meeting soon to finalize ticket distribution for upcoming elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
