GILGIT: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has pledged to ensure development and improved facilities in Gilgit-Baltistan, stating that public service will continue irrespective of electoral results.
Addressing a public gathering in Gilgit, Nawaz Sharif said he believes in seeking votes based on performance rather than criticism of opponents. He expressed concern over the poor condition of infrastructure in the region and questioned why Gilgit-Baltistan had been neglected.
Speaking to party workers, he said he was encouraged by the enthusiasm of the people and recalled that his government had initiated major road projects in Gilgit and surrounding areas. He emphasized his vision for development and employment opportunities in the region.
He further highlighted that a road from Gilgit to Skardu had been constructed at a cost of Rs50 billion, questioning why local resources were not being utilized for the benefit of the people. He also pointed out that several hydropower projects launched during his tenure remain incomplete and asked why progress had stalled.
Nawaz Sharif reiterated his commitment to development, stating that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan deserve better infrastructure, economic opportunities, and sustained government attention.
