Over 30 killed in attack on beach near Somalian capital

Authorities in Mogadishu confirms that attack was carried out by Al Shabab militant group.

MOGADISHU: At least 32 people have died and over 60 others are said to be injured in an attack on a crowded beach near Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia.

Authorities in Mogadishu confirmed the deaths and said that the attack was carried out by Al-Shabab militant group. The group affiliated with Al Qaeda through its radio channel also accepted responsibility for the attack.

The group said that its members carried out the attack on the popular beach, leaving many dead and injured.

Authorities said that soon after receiving information of the attack, security forces reached the beach and shot dead five of the terrorists. However, six others blew themselves up, causing the death of the beach goers.

A police spokesperson said that the death toll may increase ad most of the over 60 injured were in critical condition in hospitals.

Law enforcement agencies were conducting search operations inside the capital as well as on the sea, fearing presence of more militants.
