Pakistan Continues Diplomatic Efforts for Regional Peace: FO

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is actively pursuing diplomatic efforts to promote peace in the region while maintaining ongoing communication with both the United States and Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

During a weekly press briefing, spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been in contact with leaders from several countries, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar, as part of efforts to reduce regional tensions.

He added that the President of Turkey has appreciated Pakistan’s peace initiatives, while Ankara continues to support Islamabad’s diplomatic role. The spokesperson also confirmed that the Prime Minister welcomed Iran’s decision to send a high-level delegation to Islamabad.

According to Andrabi, Pakistan shares strong and strategic ties with Saudi Arabia, and the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Saudi Crown Prince for continued support. He further noted that the Prime Minister also held discussions with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who praised Pakistan’s role in de-escalating tensions.

The spokesperson said Pakistan believes in dialogue-based diplomacy to resolve complex issues and will continue engaging all relevant parties under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

On other matters, the Foreign Office reiterated that Pakistan considers Somaliland part of Somalia and supports its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Additionally, Pakistan condemned cross-border firing incidents from Afghanistan, expressing solidarity with affected families and reaffirming its commitment to take all possible measures to assist victims.
