Pakistan decides to restore diplomatic ties with Iran

National security committee discusses situation after tension with Iran.

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet on Friday decided to end the tense situation in its relations with Iran and to restore diplomatic engagements with the neighboring country.

The cabinet members were of the view that Iran violated Pakistan’s air space and our security forces gave it the reply.

We do not want to escalate tension with the brotherly country and restore the suspended diplomatic engagements with Tehran.

Earlier, the National Security Committee held a meeting to discuss the situation after the recent tension following the violation by Iran of Pakistan’s air space.

The meeting chaired by caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar besides others was also attended by all the three services chiefs.

Caretaker foreign minister Jalil Abbas Jilani and Pakistan’s ambassador to Iran briefed the meeting on the situation.

The meeting was told that Pakistan carried out an attack on terrorist bases inside Iran based on intelligence.

The participants of the meeting were of the unanimous opinion that Pakistan always wanted to maintain friendly ties with all its neighbours but would never compromise on its national interests and security.

Iran violated the air space of Pakistan by an air and drone attack on a house in Panjgur area of Balochistan two days ago and claimed that it had targetted a base of a terror outfit.

Pakistan retaliated a day later by hitting bases of BLA and BLF in the Siestan province of Iran.

Iranian media confirmed the attacks and said that seven people were killed in the attacks by Pakistan and they all were non-Iranians.
