ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered an investigation into the advertisement about the resumption of PIA flights to Paris.
This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar during the session of Senate on Tuesday. In a point of order, PPP leader Sherry Rehman asked if the government had dropped its plan to privatize the PIA. She said at the moment only 19 of the 34 aircraft of the national flag carrier were being utilized while the rest were grounded.
She referred to a recent advertisement of the PIA about the resumption of its flights to Europe and said the ad had created a very bad impression, asking who were behind the ad.
In reply, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had ordered an investigation into the ad to fix responsibility. He said the ad showing a PIA plane flying near Eiffel Tower with words like “We are coming today” had sent out a very wrong impression. He said action would be taken against the responsible after completion of the investigation.
Mr Dar said that at present 22 PIA planes by were operational while the others were under repair. He said the PIA would be privatized and it would be better it the corporate sector takes it over.
