PM Shehbaz, Iranian President Hold Key Talks on Peace Efforts

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday night and discussed ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at fostering peace and stability.

During the warm and cordial call, which lasted approximately fifty minutes, both leaders conducted an in-depth exchange of views on the evolving regional situation, particularly in the context of recent tensions and the collective push for de-escalation through dialogue.

Prime Minister Sharif appreciated the participation of a high-level Iranian delegation in the talks held in Islamabad on April 11–12, describing the engagement as constructive and timely. He further welcomed Iran’s decision to dispatch another delegation led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, which held key meetings in Islamabad earlier in the day, including an extensive two-hour session with the Prime Minister.

Sharing details of his recent diplomatic outreach to global leaders, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that these interactions had helped build broader international consensus in favor of sustained engagement, dialogue, and diplomatic solutions to ongoing regional conflicts.

He also expressed appreciation for the productive discussions held between the Iranian leadership and Asim Munir during his recent visit to Tehran, noting that such high-level exchanges have contributed positively to confidence-building measures between the two countries.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to regional peace and stability, the Prime Minister underscored that Islamabad would continue to play a sincere, constructive, and proactive role in facilitating dialogue and reducing tensions across the region.

President Pezeshkian, in his remarks, thanked Prime Minister Sharif, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar for their meaningful contributions to ongoing peace efforts. He reiterated Iran’s desire for stability and expressed confidence that the longstanding fraternal ties between Iran and Pakistan would continue to deepen and expand in the future.

Prime Minister Sharif also conveyed his respectful greetings to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, reaffirming Pakistan’s respect for Iran’s leadership.

Both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination and continue high-level engagements to support diplomatic initiatives and promote lasting peace in the region.
