PM Stresses Trade & Investment in Meeting with EU Delegation

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with a high-level delegation of the European Union comprising senior officials and representatives of leading European companies at the Prime Minister’s House on Tuesday.

The delegation was led by Petros Stubb, Director for Asia-Pacific at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships, and included representatives from the European Investment Bank as well as major companies such as Adidas, Andritz, and IKEA. EU Ambassador to Pakistan, Raimundas Karoblis, was also present.

Welcoming the delegation, the prime minister thanked them for participating in the Pakistan-EU Business Forum and highlighted that the EU remains Pakistan’s largest trading partner and export destination.

He expressed hope that the forum would further strengthen trade and investment ties between Pakistan and the EU. The prime minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing economic cooperation and facilitating foreign investment.

Despite regional challenges, including rising oil prices linked to the situation in the Middle East, he stressed that Pakistan remains focused on achieving economic stability. He also referred to his recent telephonic conversations with European Council President Antonio Costa regarding regional security and bilateral relations.

The EU delegation appreciated the government’s efforts in hosting the business forum and acknowledged Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace. Members of the delegation shared their positive investment experiences and noted strong potential for expanding business-to-business cooperation in sectors such as energy, communications, and information technology.

Senior Pakistani officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, and other cabinet members, were also present during the meeting.
