GILGIT: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have reportedly reached a power-sharing agreement to jointly form the government in Gilgit-Baltistan, according to party sources.
Under the agreed formula, the Chief Minister’s post will be held by the PPP, while the office of Governor will go to the PML-N. Additionally, the positions of Leader of the Opposition and Deputy Speaker are expected to be allocated to the PML-N as part of the arrangement.
The PPP has nominated Amjad Hussain Advocate, who also serves as the party’s Gilgit-Baltistan president, as its candidate for Chief Minister. Sources say this marks the first time a leader from the Gilgit region has been selected for the top provincial slot, a move seen as politically significant.
Following the recent elections, the PPP emerged as the leading party in Gilgit-Baltistan with nine assembly seats, paving the way for coalition negotiations with the PML-N.
Party leadership has reportedly directed Amjad Hussain to prioritize governance reforms and public welfare initiatives as the new government takes shape.
Political analysts suggest the coalition aims to ensure political stability in the region, though its success will depend on effective coordination between the two major parties.
