Yousuf Raza Gilani elected unopposed Senate chairman

PTI members boycott election demanding postponement till election for Senate in KP assembly.

ISLAMABAD: Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani of the PPP was on Tuesday elected unopposed the chairman of the Senate.

Sardar Syedal Khan Nasir of the PML-N was elected the deputy chairman of the house. Gilani was the candidate of the PPP and the allies in the government including the PML-N for the top slot of the upper house of parliament.

The members of the PTI on the occasion boycotted the proceeding demanding that till the senators to be elected by KP assembly join the house the election of the chairman and the deputy chairman should not be held.

Earlier, Ishaq Dar, who was presiding over the session, administered oath to the 41 new senators after which they signed the roll.
