President Urges Strong Anti-Tobacco Laws on World No Tobacco Day

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized the need for strict legislation and effective enforcement to protect the public from the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine products.

In his message on World No Tobacco Day, the president stated that tobacco has become a serious global health and economic issue, requiring immediate and comprehensive action. He highlighted that tobacco use poses a major threat to public health both globally and in Pakistan.

Citing data from the World Health Organization (WHO), President Zardari noted that tobacco consumption causes more than 7 million deaths worldwide each year, including approximately 1.6 million deaths due to secondhand smoke.

He stressed that stronger laws and their proper implementation are essential to curb tobacco use and safeguard public health.
