Punjab Moves to Enforce Anti-Tobacco Measures in Schools

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that strict measures are being implemented to ensure a complete ban on smoking in educational institutions across the province.

In her message on World No Tobacco Day, the Chief Minister stated that the use of tobacco in government offices, public transport, and other public places is a punishable offense. She emphasized that the government is strengthening enforcement to ensure full compliance with anti-smoking laws.

She described tobacco as “more dangerous than any fatal disease,” warning that smoking and vaping are major contributing factors to heart attacks among young people. She stressed the importance of providing a healthy, smoke-free environment for children and loved ones, calling it a collective social responsibility.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif also highlighted alarming statistics, stating that tobacco use is responsible for more than 250,000 deaths annually in the country, describing the figures as deeply concerning.

She appealed to the public to quit smoking immediately and adopt a healthier lifestyle, urging society as a whole to actively participate in awareness and prevention efforts against tobacco use.
