DOHA: Qatar has reaffirmed its support for Pakistan’s role as a mediator in ongoing negotiations between United States and Iran, stating that no additional intermediary is required at this stage.
Speaking during a regular press briefing, the spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majed Al-Ansari, said Pakistan is playing an effective and constructive role in facilitating dialogue between the two sides. He emphasized that expanding the scope of negotiations or involving another country was unnecessary.
The spokesperson noted that Qatar remains in contact with regional and international partners regarding the evolving situation and continues to support a peaceful and diplomatic resolution to tensions between Washington and Tehran.
However, he also cautioned that any deadlock in the ongoing talks could risk turning the situation into a prolonged or “frozen” conflict, which may flare up again periodically.
Without naming any specific country, Al-Ansari warned against any threats to the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that its security is directly linked to global energy stability. He said the waterway should not be used as a bargaining tool under any circumstances.
The Qatari spokesperson further reiterated his country’s continued support for Lebanon and its armed forces, highlighting ongoing coordination with international partners under a multilateral framework.
Qatar’s remarks come amid heightened regional tensions and continued diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating the situation between the United States and Iran.
