ISLAMABAD: The increasing number of HIV cases in Pakistan has been raised in Parliament, drawing attention to a growing public health concern.

Senator Sarmad Ali submitted a call-attention notice in the Senate, highlighting the alarming rise in HIV cases in Taunsa and other parts of the country. He has sought a response from the Federal Health Minister regarding the situation.

The notice stated that the rising number of HIV cases, particularly in Islamabad, raises serious questions about public health management and emphasizes the urgent need for effective measures to control the spread of the virus.

The senator also called for an immediate review of the performance of the National AIDS Control Program.

According to the notice, possible reasons behind the spread include unsafe medical practices, lack of proper screening, and insufficient public awareness. It further stressed the need to improve safe blood transfusion systems, strengthen testing facilities, and provide accurate and transparent information to prevent fear and misinformation among the public.

Officials warned that the increase in HIV cases could become a serious challenge for the country’s healthcare system if not addressed promptly. Enhanced monitoring and awareness campaigns have also been recommended to control the spread of HIV.
