Rs22 Billion Budget for Health Sector Proposed

ISLAMABAD, Jun 2, 2026: The federal government has proposed a development budget of Rs 22 billion for the National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination Division in the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) for the fiscal year 2026-27. The budget aims to continue work on key health infrastructure, medical education, and disease prevention projects across the country.

According to official documents, a total of 33 development schemes have been included in the budget. Of these, 19.36 billion rupees are proposed for 22 ongoing projects, while 2.64 billion rupees are recommended for 11 new schemes.

Ongoing projects prioritized in the budget include the establishment of a Cancer Hospital in Islamabad, the Jinnah Medical Complex & Research Center, the National Hepatitis C Eradication Program, and initiatives for diabetes prevention. The government has also proposed Rs 2 billion for the Prime Minister’s National Health Program to expand healthcare services to a larger segment of the population.

New development schemes include projects such as the Federal Medical College Islamabad, the National Research & Fertility Care Center Karachi, and the National University of Nursing Karachi. These projects are designed to enhance capacity in medical education, research, and specialized healthcare services.

Government sources stated that the proposed budget aims to ensure the timely completion of ongoing projects, provide modern medical facilities, and improve standards in medical education and research. Experts believe that if these projects are completed on schedule, they could play a significant role in strengthening Pakistan’s healthcare system.
