Section 144 imposed in six districts, PTI vows to defy ban
PTI says ban on public gatherings is violative of constitution and party will go ahead with its protest plans.
FAISALABAD: The government of Punjab has imposed Section 144 in six districts of the province to stop the PTI from holding any protest gathering.
Under section 144 the assembly of more than four persons at a time at a place is prohibited. However, political parties often violate the law in holding rallies and public gatherings.
The PTI political party of former Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced to hold protest gatherings in six districts of Punjab. It has also announced that the PTI supporters would hold a rally at the D-Chowka Islamabad on October 3.
District administration of Islamabad has already imposed section 144 in the capital city where the PTI has held protest a couple of gatherings recently during which the city was locked down.
The Punjab government imposed Section 144 in Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Toba Tek Singh, Mianwali, Chiniot and Jhang today. Two companies of Rangers have been deployed in Mianwali along with blockade of roads by putting shipping containers.
However, the PTI said any ban on public gatherings was violative of the constitution and the party will go ahead with its protest plans.
