RAWALPINDI: Authorities have tightened security around Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi ahead of a scheduled meeting with former prime minister Imran Khan, amid expectations of large gatherings by supporters.
According to police officials, a comprehensive security plan has been put in place, with more than 1,300 personnel to be deployed at various locations to maintain law and order. The measures come in response to concerns over potential crowd movement toward the jail premises.
Officials said a total of 12 checkpoints will be established on roads leading to the jail, including key points such as Chakri Interchange, Gorakhpur, Bahria Phase 8, and Capital Smart City.
Additional monitoring points will also be set up at Thalian Interchange, Khawaja Corporation, and Gulshanabad to control access.
Under the security plan, unauthorized individuals or convoys will not be allowed to approach the jail. Police will strictly monitor movement in the surrounding areas, while surveillance will be enhanced to detect any suspicious activity.
Authorities further stated that elite forces, riot management units, water cannons, and tear gas-equipped personnel will remain on standby to respond swiftly to any emergency situation.
The heightened security reflects concerns about public order as political tensions remain high, with officials emphasizing that all measures are aimed at ensuring safety and preventing disruptions.
