KARACHI: The Sindh government has approved university scholarships for 2,662 students for the academic year 2025–26 under the Sindh Education Endowment Fund (SEEF).

The decision was taken in a meeting of the SEEF Board of Trustees chaired by Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah. The board also approved the renewal of scholarships for 5,853 students already pursuing higher education under the program.

Officials informed the meeting that SEEF scholarships are currently being provided to students from Sindh enrolled in 92 universities across the country. The fund’s total endowment is expected to reach Rs11.616 billion by 2026, with investment returns used to finance scholarships.

The Sindh government contributes an additional Rs2 billion annually to strengthen the fund, which was established in 2002. Since its inception, 42,169 students have completed their higher education with SEEF support.

The education minister said the initiative was designed to help talented and underprivileged students access quality higher education and ensure equal opportunities.

He stressed the need to review the fund’s investment strategy to maximize returns and expand the number of scholarships. He also directed the digitalization of SEEF systems to improve transparency and efficiency.

The meeting approved a third-party audit of the fund and decided that the SEEF executive committee would propose ways to increase scholarship seats in universities and identify high-demand academic fields for future support.

The minister also expressed concern over the absence of several university vice chancellors from board meetings, emphasizing that their participation is essential for addressing student-related issues and improving the program.
