ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office on Thursday said that Afghan authorities tried to build two border posts on the Pakistani side of the Pak-Afghan border at Torkham and fired on Pakistani security forces after being asked not to do so.
Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said at a weekly press briefing that the Torkham border was closed due to unprovoked firing and an attempt by Afghanistan to establish checkpoints on the Pakistani side of the border.
He said that the extradition of Sharifullah, who was involved in terrorism in Afghanistan and killing of US servicemen, to the United States was done in the light of Pakistan-US security and counter-terrorism cooperation. “All legal requirements in this regard were met; there is no full stop on the arrest and extradition of terrorist Sharifullah. Operations like the arrest and extradition of terrorist Sharifullah are not subject to any single incident. Consular communication between Pakistan and the United States continues.”
On the question of the possible ban on Pakistani and Afghan citizens on entry into America by the United States, the Foreign Office spokesman said there is no information on such a travel restriction on Pakistanis.
“We have a long-standing friendly relationship with the United States. The United States is our major export partner. We strongly condemn the allegations made by Afghanistan about the presence of ISIS camps in Pakistan.”
In reply to a question about occupied Kashmir, Khan said, “We strongly condemn the settlement of residents of other countries in occupied Kashmir.”
He said that Pakistan’s policy on Ukraine was clear. We want peace in Ukraine. We have positive relations with both Russia and Ukraine.”
