WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said a terrorist responsible for killing 13 U.S. service members during the withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 had been apprehended with the help of Pakistan.
He said the arrested terrorist was now on his way to the U.S. to face justice.
Trump shared the news during an address to Congress today.
He said that families, near and dear ones of the US soldiers would be happy as soon the perpetrator would be brought to justice.
According to a foreign news outlet, a senior ISIS commander accused of planning the attack on the US troops was arrested by Pakistani authorities after the US shared with them the details of his whereabouts.
He has been identified as Mohammad Sharifullah, an ISIS leader in Afghanistan and Pakistan. He has been accused of devising and coordinating the attack that killed 13 U.S. service members and about 170 Afghan citizens. The attack was carried out outside the airport in Kabul on August 26, 2021.
The apprehended terrorist has now been extradited to the U.S. by Pakistan and was due to arrive in the U.S. on Wednesday.
