UNITED NATIONS: UN Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed the announcement by the US president regarding the extension of the ceasefire, while expressing strong and unequivocal support for Pakistan’s ongoing mediation efforts between the concerned parties.
In an official statement, Guterres noted that the extension of the ceasefire has created a timely and valuable opportunity for diplomacy between Iran and United States.
He emphasized that such developments could help de-escalate tensions and open the door for meaningful engagement, adding that he remains hopeful that the ongoing negotiations will pave the way for a comprehensive, inclusive, and long-lasting resolution.
The UN chief urged all sides to fully respect the ceasefire and to demonstrate restraint, while actively engaging in constructive, result-oriented dialogue aimed at achieving sustainable peace and stability in the region.
He further reaffirmed the United Nations’ continued support for all initiatives that promote regional stability, dialogue, and conflict resolution, noting that Pakistan’s facilitation role is a positive and encouraging step toward reducing tensions and fostering diplomatic understanding among the parties involved.
