WASHINGTON: The United States has granted the United Arab Emirates special export privileges by placing it in Country Group A-5 under the Export Administration Regulations, making the UAE the first Gulf country and the second Muslim-majority nation after Türkiye to receive the designation.
According to international media reports, the US Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) announced that the new classification would allow the UAE government and approved commercial entities to access a range of eligible products under the Strategic Trade Authorization without obtaining individual export licences, provided they comply with specified conditions and US export control laws.
Following the decision, the UAE will have significantly easier access to advanced US technologies, including artificial intelligence chips, certain military equipment, commercial satellites, space technology and various dual-use items.
The move is considered particularly important for sectors that rely on advanced American technology, including oil and gas production, desalination projects, civil nuclear energy, artificial intelligence, advanced computing, semiconductors and space technology.
