WASHINGTON: The United States Senate has rejected a resolution aimed at halting the supply of certain military equipment to Israel, underscoring continued divisions among lawmakers over US support for its ally.
The measure, led by Senator Bernie Sanders, sought to block the provision of bulldozers to the Israeli military. However, the proposal failed to pass, with 59 senators voting against it, while 40 supported the move.
In a separate vote, another bill introduced by Sanders aimed at stopping the transfer of 1,000-pound bombs to Israel also fell short. Only 36 senators voted in favor of restricting the supply, reflecting limited backing for curbing military assistance.
The initiatives were part of broader efforts by some lawmakers to challenge what they describe as unconditional US support for Israel, particularly amid ongoing tensions in the region.
Despite growing debate within Congress, the rejection of both measures indicates that a majority in the Senate continues to support maintaining military aid to Israel.
