GUJRANWALA: An anti-terrorism court in Gujranwala today sentenced 51 PTI activists to five years’ imprisonment each in the May 9, 2023, vandalism case.
ATC Judge Natasha Nasim Sapra announced the short verdict after conducting trial of the case inside the jail. The court also fined the convict Rs20,000 each in the case registered against them under eight sections of the law.
None of the convicts was a known leader or worker of the PTI. They were arrested with the help of footage of the CCTV cameras for attacking military installations on May 9, 10 last year. About 119 prosecution witnesses recorded their statements during hearing of the case.
It may be noted that PTI leaders, including Imran Khan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Pervez Elahi, were also nominated in the case. However, the PTI founder’s chalan has not been submitted to the court yet.
