WASHINGTON: A majority of Americans believe the decision to go to war with Iran was a mistake, according to a new public opinion survey.
The poll found that 57% of respondents opposed the decision to launch military action against Iran, while only 27% said they supported the government’s decision. The remaining respondents either opposed neither side or did not express a clear opinion.
The survey also showed growing concern about the duration of the conflict. Nearly 46% of those surveyed said they believe the war between the United States and Iran could continue for a year or even longer.
Political analysts say the findings reflect rising public anxiety over the potential economic and political consequences of a prolonged conflict.
Experts warn that if the war continues, it could have far-reaching effects on the US economy, global energy markets, oil prices and security across the Middle East.
Analysts also say public opinion reflected in such polls could influence future US foreign policy decisions and the government’s approach to the ongoing conflict.
