PESHAWAR: Today is the 10th anniversary of the horrific terror attack on the Army Public School Peshawar in which 147 children and their teachers were massacred, including 122 young souls, by six armed men, on December 16, 2014.
These savages were armed with sophisticated weapons and succeeded in reaching the school to carry out the massacre of the innocent children leaving their classrooms in pools of blood. Hundreds were also injured.
This was a blatant security and intelligce failure that gave a chance to the armed men to reach the school in the high security area and carry out the carnage.
Ten years down the lane, parents still wait for justice and those responsible to be brought to justice. They held protest demonstrations demanding a judicial commission to probe into the incident and bring all those involved in planning and executing the massacre.
Following the gruesome incident, a National Action Plan was formulated to deal with the scourge of terrorism in the country. Pakistan has suffered huge losses in terms of human lives and the scourge of terrorism in still an issue.
Meanwhile, educational institutions were closed in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore on the 10th anniversary of the APS carnage without assigning any reason late on December 15. The Punjab government just said in a notification that the educational institutions will remain closed due to the prevailing security situation.
