25 sentenced by military courts in May 9 cases: ISPR

Convicts get jail terms of four to 10 years in Jinnah House and other arson attacks cases.

RAWALPINDI: As many as 25 people arrested in the May 9 arson attacks cases have been sentenced to different jail terms by military courts in the first phase of the ongoing trials.

The military’s media wing, the ISPR, in a statement issued here said that the jail terms ranging from two to 10 years.

These 25 people were arrested for their involvement in arson attacks on Jinnah House Lahore, GHQ Rawalpindi and other military installations in different cities of Punjab and Khyber Pakthunkhwa.

The arrested people were among hundreds of PTI supporters who took to the streets after the arrest of PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan in Islamabad on May 9, 2022, in a corruption cases. He was released two days later in the direction of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The ISPR said that full justice would be possible only after the masterminds behind the May 9 attacks were brought to justice.

It added that the Field General Court Martial (FGCM) convicted the 25 individuals for their involvement in the attacks after examining all evidence, affording all legal rights to the accused and completion of due process.

“Promulgation of the sentences of remaining accused”  continues and would be announced.

“It is also a stark reminder to all those who are exploited by the vested interests and fall prey to their political propaganda and intoxicating lies, to never take law in own hands ever in the future,” the press release said.
