Gunfire Outside U.S. Consulate Triggers Heightened Security

TORONTO: A shooting outside the United States Consulate in Toronto this morning prompted a major police response, though no injuries were reported.

Toronto police said officers responded after hearing gunfire and found evidence that at least one shot had been fired outside the consulate. An investigation is underway to identify those responsible.

Authorities said a white sedan was seen speeding away from the scene immediately after the shooting. Police are searching for the vehicle and have appealed to the public for any information or video footage that could assist the investigation.

The incident marks the second shooting outside the U.S. Consulate in Toronto this year. On March 10, multiple shots were fired at the same building.

Police also noted that three separate shootings targeting synagogues in different parts of Toronto had been reported before these incidents.

Following the latest shooting, security has been tightened around both the U.S. and Israeli consulates in Toronto. Additional officers have been deployed, and surveillance around sensitive locations has been increased.

Investigators have not yet identified a motive or released information about any suspects. The investigation remains ongoing.
