PML-N Takes Early Lead in First Phase of AJK Elections

MIRPUR: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has taken an early lead in the first phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections, according to unofficial and preliminary results.

Polling was held on Monday in 13 constituencies across the Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber divisions. Voting concluded at 5 p.m., with an additional hour allowed for voters already present at polling stations. Vote counting is still underway.

According to unofficial results from 10 of the 13 constituencies, PML-N has won seven seats, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has secured three seats.

PML-N candidates won LA-1 Mirpur-1, LA-4 Mirpur-4, LA-7 Bhimber-3, LA-9 Kotli-2, LA-11 Kotli-4, LA-12 Kotli-5 and LA-13 Kotli-6.

PPP candidates were declared successful in LA-2 Mirpur-2, LA-3 Mirpur-3 and LA-8 Kotli-1.

Vote counting continues in the remaining constituencies. In LA-5 Bhimber-1, PML-N’s Waqar Ahmad Noor is leading after results from 115 of 176 polling stations. In LA-6 Bhimber-2, PML-N’s Chaudhry Muhammad Razaq is ahead based on results from 100 of 195 polling stations.

Meanwhile, in LA-10 Kotli-3, PPP’s Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin is leading after results from 36 of the constituency’s 169 polling stations.

The Election Commission is expected to announce the final official results after the completion of vote counting in all constituencies.
