JI Protests at Over 500 Locations Against Petroleum Levy

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami will stage sit-ins and protests at 510 locations across Pakistan today against the petroleum levy and rising inflation.

Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief Munim Zafar Khan said in a video statement that major roads would be blocked during the protests, with ambulances allowed to pass.

He said protests would be held in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi and other cities.

In Karachi, protest caravans will set out at 4pm from several locations, including Shahrah-e-Pakistan, Hub Road, National Highway, Super Highway, Orangi, Korangi, Pakistan Chowk and Sher Shah. The caravans will converge at Mazar-e-Quaid before proceeding towards Shahrah-e-Faisal.

Munim Zafar Khan said the protests would continue until the petroleum levy is withdrawn and urged citizens to participate in large numbers.
