JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye will hold a trilateral summit in Jeddah today, with a joint defence agreement expected to be signed between the three countries.
According to a report by Agence France-Presse, citing Saudi military sources, the agreement has been under consideration for some time, but recent developments in the region have accelerated the process.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif are expected to hold an important meeting in Jeddah today.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir have already arrived in Jeddah at the invitation of the Saudi Crown Prince.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said the visit is important for promoting regional peace, diplomatic cooperation and a coordinated strategy.
Pakistan has continued diplomatic efforts to help reduce tensions in the Middle East and promote peaceful resolution of regional disputes, the spokesperson said.
According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan also hopes that consensus on the Strait of Hormuz will help advance the Islamabad reconciliation framework and pave the way for renewed Iran-US talks.
