KARACHI: Mera Lyari, a film produced under the Sindh government’s initiative, has entered the race for the Academy Awards, marking a significant milestone for Pakistan’s film industry.
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the film’s progress towards Oscar consideration reflects the government’s commitment to promoting cinema, culture and the creative industries.
The development came during a meeting of the Information Department’s Film Board, where officials reviewed ongoing film projects and discussed future strategies for strengthening the provincial film industry.
The meeting was informed that the first phase of the department’s film projects had been completed successfully, while discussions were underway with national and international OTT platforms regarding the distribution and exhibition of locally produced films.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said the film industry plays an important role in projecting the country’s cultural heritage and positive image, while also creating opportunities for employment, investment and creative talent.
He added that the Sindh government aims to develop the province into a modern filmmaking hub, enabling local filmmakers and artists to showcase their work on the global stage.
The meeting was attended by Information Secretary Kashif Gulzar Shaikh, Director General Information Moez Pirzada, Director Films Hizbullah Memon, Film Board members and other officials.
