Accountability Court indicts former president Asif Zardari in Park Lane Case, Trial formally begins, 3 NAB witnesses summoned at next hearing

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Accountability Court has indicted 13 suspects along former president and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in fake accounts and money laundering case on Monday. Upon the suspects denied the accusations, the court called three NAB witnesses on next hearing on Sept 1 and began park lane reference case against former president and other suspects.

Accountability Court Judge Azam Khan first on the presence of Asif Zardari on video link from Bilawal house and then other suspects and began hearing properly.

Suspects Iqbal Khan and Taha Raza lawyers requested the court to postpone the trial, and let them meet with their clients, however, ex-president asked for delay the hearing as his lawyer Farooq H. Naek is busy in another case in Supreme Court.

The court rejected the suspects’ plea for delay in the case, while, the judge said in his remarks that “We” announce the accusations, “you” read it and then reply to the court. There is no need for a lawyer to hear accusations in the charge sheet and then meeting will be arranged for all too, the judge observed.

On that, Asif Zardari asked the court “to write” in the decision that his counsel is not present in the court. Former president also argued that he have idea of indictment cases as he is suffering for 30 years.

The judge remarked that Mr. Asif Zardari as a president “you” pressurized the National Bank for loan, and by forming fake company on front then embezzled the loan.

It is said in the indictment that Asif Zardari was the director of Park lane company, prepared the plan of fraud and to cover it he made a front company. Former president transferred the money procured by fraud in hials accounts and through pay orders he transferred that money into the fake accounts, said the indictment.

As per the indictment, Asif Zardari as a president misused his powers, he formed a front company to procure loan and being inflhenced as a President of Pakistan in issuance of loan.

On the indictment from accountability court, ex-president have denied the health of crimes and rejected the charges against him. The court has ordered the NAB officers present in Bilawal house for thumb and signatures of former president.

Furthermore, former president said before the court in video link that he gave 18th amendment to this country, that is the reason cases are being made against him. The cases against him are just to pressurize him, Asif Zardari said.

However, in the park lane reference case the court has been adjourned untill Septemebr 1.
