APHC condemns Indian gimmicks to mislead world about Kashmir dispute

SRINAGAR: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference has reiterated that Kashmir is a dispute recognized by United Nations through the resolutions of its Security Council and it must be resolved as per the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir by allowing them to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the APHC at an extraordinary meeting of its Majlis Shura held at its Head Office in Srinagar with Working Vice Chairman, Ghulam Ahmed Gulzar, in the chair discussed at length the prevailing critical situation of IIOJK and the ongoing resistance movement. The meeting categorically rejected all political gimmicks, including sham elections propounded by India to hoodwink the international community on one hand, and to lure its political stooges belonging to the occupied territory on the other. The APHC maintained that the Kashmir dispute is not a matter of power sharing or of any other out of box solution, but an issue of freedom of the Kashmiri people from India.

Meanwhile, a report released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service on the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, today, maintained that India is using physical, mental and psychological torture at a large scale as a tool to prolong its illegal hold on Jammu and Kashmir and to suppress the Kashmiris’ ongoing just freedom struggle. It revealed that Indian forces’ personnel had subjected over 300,000 Kashmiris to torture and martyred 95,800 others since January 1989 till date. The report pointed out that Cargo, Harinivas, Papa-1 and Papa-II, and Humhama police stations are the most notorious interrogation centres where thousands of Kashmiris lost their lives due to severe torture during interrogation.

The Jammu and Kashmir Employees Movement in a statement in Srinagar expressing concern over the plight of illegally detained Kashmiris languishing in different jails demanded their immediate release. Delegations of Jammu and Kashmir Social Justice League and the Jammu Kashmir Democratic Justice Party went to Sopore area of Baramulla and expressed solidarity with the families of the youth martyred by Indian troops.

Media reports suggest that in yet another attempt to appease the regional political parties of IIOJK and gain their sympathies, Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has said that a committee will be formed by authorities in the territory to go through the list of political detainees on a case-to-case basis and they could be released soon. New Delhi’s move is only meant to set free the pro-India political leadership and India has no plan to release the illegally detained Hurriyat leaders and activists.

National Conference leader, Agha Roohullah, in an interview in Srinagar said New Delhi has always fooled Kashmiris in the name of autonomy and other things and the All Party Meet by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was part of the same strategy. Vice President of the National Conference Omar Abdullah in an interview said it is foolish to demand the restoration of Article 370 of the Constitution from the Modi government. Senior leader of Communist Party of India-Marxist, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami, in an interview reiterated the party’s demand for the full restoration of the statehood of IIOJK.

Indian police booked at least eight persons including four Sarpanchs and a government teacher in Bhaderwah area of Doda district in Jammu region for staging a protest, demanding road connectivity to their villages. An Indian soldier was killed when lightning struck an Army post in Gulmarg area of Baramulla district. Five Indian policemen, including an Assistant Sub Inspector, were injured when a vehicle they were travelling in turned turtle in Kunzer area of Baramulla district, today.
