Canada Thrash Qatar 6–0 in Historic World Cup Victory
VANCOUVER: Canada produced a stunning performance in the FIFA World Cup as they secured their first-ever victory in the tournament with a dominant 6–0 win over Qatar.
Playing in Vancouver, Canada took control of the match from the opening whistle, with early goals setting the tone for a one-sided contest. Canada went into halftime with a comfortable three-goal lead after relentless attacking pressure.
Qatar’s challenge worsened in the first half when a player was shown a red card, leaving the team struggling to contain Canada’s attacking rhythm.
In the second half, Canada continued their dominance, adding further goals to complete a comprehensive 6–0 victory. Jonathan David was among the standout performers, scoring a hat-trick in a commanding display. Nathan Saliba also found the net with a superb set-piece goal.
However, the match was overshadowed by a serious injury to Canadian midfielder Ismaël Koné, who had to be stretchered off after a heavy collision. The incident drew emotional reactions from teammates and fans alike.
Qatar were further reduced in numbers following another disciplinary decision after a VAR review, leaving them with only nine players on the pitch as Canada extended their lead.
Meanwhile, in another World Cup fixture, Mexico defeated South Korea 1–0 to become the first team to qualify for the knockout stage. Luis Romo scored the decisive goal early in the second half, securing a crucial win for his side.
