ATLANTA: Defending champions Argentina secured their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final with a dramatic 2-1 victory over England in the second semifinal.
England took the lead in the 55th minute through Anthony Gordon, putting the Three Lions on course for their first World Cup final appearance in 60 years.
Argentina mounted a late comeback as Enzo Fernández equalized in the 85th minute, before Lautaro Martínez scored the decisive winner in the closing stages to seal a 2-1 victory.
The result sends Argentina into the World Cup final, where they will face Spain on Sunday in a clash between the defending champions and the 2010 world champions.
England, meanwhile, will take on France in the third-place playoff on Saturday after falling just short of a historic return to the World Cup final.
