Democratic party nominates Harris as presidential candidate

Says she would easily win November election by defeating her rival and former President Donald Trump

WASHINGTON: US Vice President Kamala Harris has been nominated by a majority of Democrat nominees as a candidate of the party for the presidential election.

She is set to become the first non-white woman to run on a major party ticket.

“I am so proud to confirm that Vice President Harris has earned more than a majority of votes from all convention delegates and will be the nominee of the Democratic Party,” chief of Democratic National Committee Jaime Harrison announced.

Speaking after getting the party’s nomination, Harris said that she would easily win the November election by defeating her rival and former President Donald Trump.

She said that the campaign would be focused on uniting all of us, “people coming together from every walk of life, every lived experience and being fueled by our love of country, knowing that we are prepared to fight for the best of who we are.”

It may be noted that the party’s candidate and incumbent President Joe Biden bowed out of the race after his poor performance during a debate with Trump. Coupled with his old age, he was considered not fit to run for the slot and the party put pressure on him.
