Djokovic Breaks Federer’s Wimbledon Record

LONDON: Serbia’s Novak Djokovic created Wimbledon history by becoming the winningest player in the tournament’s men’s singles competition after securing his 106th victory to surpass Roger Federer’s long-standing record.

The 39-year-old booked his place in the quarter-finals after defeating qualifier Roman Safiullin in four sets. After dropping the opening set, Djokovic fought back to win 6-7, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.

With the victory, Djokovic moved past Federer’s previous record of 105 Wimbledon men’s singles wins. Overall, only women’s tennis legend Martina Navratilova has more Wimbledon singles victories, with 120.

Djokovic remains on course to win a record eighth Wimbledon title and a historic 25th Grand Slam singles crown. A potential semi-final clash with world No. 1 Jannik Sinner could await if both players progress.
