BRUSSELS: A leaked report by the European Union has warned that terrorism growing under the Taliban regime in Afghanistan poses a serious security threat to Europe.
The report highlights that extremist groups, particularly ISIS-K, are expanding their influence beyond the region, using social media platforms to recruit and radicalize individuals, including minors.
According to the assessment, Afghanistan has become a hub for extremist networks and digital radicalization, raising concerns about cross-border terrorism risks for European countries.
The document further reveals that militant groups are actively using platforms such as Telegram and TikTok to spread propaganda and attract young recruits, with some cases involving children as young as 12. Experts warn that this trend significantly increases the risk of future attacks in Europe.
Security analysts also note that the findings support long-standing concerns about Afghanistan’s role in fostering extremism and facilitating transnational threats, urging stronger international coordination to counter the growing challenge.
