ISLAMABAD: The European Union’s new asylum and migration agreement is set to be implemented from June 2026, according to a statement issued by the Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment in Islamabad.

The agreement aims to make the system faster, more organized, and more efficient. Under the new framework, strict checks at border entry points will be mandatory.

Following the announcement, decisions on asylum applications are expected to be processed much more quickly, ensuring that individuals staying illegally in EU countries are identified and their cases resolved promptly.

A key feature of the agreement is to increase the deportation rate of non-EU citizens residing illegally.

To facilitate this, a new return framework has been established, along with a list of safe countries at the EU level. This means that individuals who do not follow legal procedures can be swiftly sent back to their countries of origin.
