LAHORE: Industrialists and traders in Lahore have also decided to launch protests against the rising cost of electricity and increase in tax rates.
Traders and owners of industries say they they’re unable to run businesses. They announce to lock their factories and shops and hand over the keys to the government.
A meeting was held at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry in which the participants protested against the capacity charges and high cost of electricity by independent power producers (IPPs). The meeting asked the government to conduct forensic audit of the IPPs.
The traders said that the cost of electricity had gone out of their reach and they were unable yo run their businesses. They said that they would lock their shops and industrial units and hand over the keys to the government.
They said the corrupt government on the dictation of the IMF had made lives miserable not only for the common man but also for the business community.
The rulers and the elite class were enjoying free electricity, petrol and other facilities while the masses were being taxed, they added.
