Former Gaza hostages marry 17 months after release

JERUSALEM: Two former Israeli hostages abducted during the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack have married nearly 17 months after one of them was freed from captivity in Gaza.

Sasha Tropanov and Sapir Cohen, who were kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz, tied the knot on Saturday evening. Cohen was released during a prisoner exchange in November 2023, while Tropanov remained in captivity until February 2025 after spending about 400 days in Gaza.

Following his release, Tropanov underwent lengthy medical treatment for gunshot wounds sustained during the attack. He proposed to Cohen a few months later.

The wedding was attended by several former hostages. Thanking the guests, Tropanov said they had stood by the couple throughout their ordeal and expressed his gratitude for sharing their joyful moment.

Tropanov’s mother and grandmother were also taken hostage and later released, while his father was killed during the October 7 attack.
