GCU gets first woman VC in 160 years history

Dr Shazia Bashir says she wants to further improve standard of university.

LAHORE: Dr Shazia Bashir has become the first woman to assume the charge of vice chancellor of Govt College University Lahore in its 160-year-long history.

Talking to media, Dr Bashir said it was an honor for her to study, teach at the institution and then become its vice chancellor.

The vice chancellor said that she wants to further improve the standard and ranking of the university besides resolving issues of the faculty, including their pending promotions.

Dr Bashir earlier worked as the dean of the faculty of mathematical and physical sciences at the university. She has obtained her PhD degree from Vianna University of Austria.
