ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Friday suspended the physical remand of senior journalist Matiullah Jan.

An Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi had on Thursday handed over Jan to police on a two days’ physical remand. The police in the FIR claimed that the journalist snatched a gun from police at a check post and threatened the officials. The FIR also claimed that ice drug was recovered from the journalist.

The physical remand was challenged by lawyers of the journalist at Islamabad High Court which suspended it. The court said that now the journalist should be considered on judicial remand.

Later, Advocate Imaan Mazari filed an application for the bail of the journalist in the relevant court.

Human rights defenders have strongly condemned the arrest of the vocal journalist on a concocted case. They said that the journalist was abducted by men in plain clothes from PIMS hospital at night and hours later was implicated in a fake caseĀ
